Shredder 51

The clarity of the clearing was what struck Anibel first, when all else had been fragmented and fuzzy since her fall.  She could see that sea of chaos in the offing, but it was being held at bay.  Standing stones rose from the lucid terrain, and she sensed that the carved sentinels were what created this sanctuary.

Figures emerged from behind the stones.  Anibel remained still as they approached.  Twice her size, no distinct gender was evident as they drew closer.  She could see no raiments upon their glowing frames, but the ghostly outline of weapons materialized.  She grew concerned for her current well-being at the sight.

“Why do you disturb our concordance, spirit?  Leave,” the most forward figure said.

“I meant no intrusion,” Anibel said in careful tones, “I am uncertain where I am.”

“How did you get here?” the speaker said, scanning the immediate area.

“I don’t know.  I don’t know where this is.”

“How did you get here?”  The same question, the tone much more menacing.

Anibel shook her head in uncertainty and said, “I don’t know.  I fell.”

The speaker continued to search the periphery for a few heartbeats before facing her once more.  “Kill one to which it is linked.  I would see how it gains entrance.”

Anibel hesitated in confusion for a moment before understanding their lethal intent.  “No!” she screamed, but one of the figures dissolved from sight toward Gerard’s beacon in the distance.
