Andionar Deturck
Originally from West Bend, Ohio, Andrew Deturck grew up in a stable yet disciplined dysfunctional household. An abusive father and submissive mother lead to many sleepless nights, some of which were spent in the emergency room. Andy’s parents did not support his musical interests and did not approve of the crowd to which he had attached himself.
Shortly after his sixteenth birthday, Andy ran away with several friends and headed toward New York City. For several months he and his friends struggled with their music and finding odd jobs to put food on the table. Andy began to experiment with drugs and found himself in the employ of some rather seedy individuals in the neighborhood. Sharp of mind and quick of tongue, Andy managed to survive in this world of darkness. Moving up through the ranks his choice of drugs became heroin, fueling his inner musician better than any other high.
In his nineteenth year Andy served nine months in a state penal facility for possession and intent to distribute. The rehab and detox were especially difficult, hamstringing the inner song and turning his music into a monstrosity. Doing time sharpened him enough against the possibility of ever returning to the horrors of rehab again. He stepped back into the business but stayed away from the drugs as long as he could.
Four years brought with it battles against competitors, police, the drugs and detox again, but Andy managed to keep a tight rein on his descending spiral. Rebounding strongly each time, he emerged fairly unscathed with a nice support system of people beneath him.
A celebratory evening found Andy with a solid dose of premium heroin coursing through his system, and he reached for his sorely neglected saxophone. The music which emerged from him that night transported him to a spiritual plateau. Skin popping again in his fugue state, Andy achieved a near death state while playing his horn. The chrysalis not only overtook him, but Andy leapt straight into the Dreaming and entered Bedlam, completely embracing his Fae nature.
Had a friend not arrived shortly thereafter and taken him to the hospital, there’s no telling what notes would have been played that night.
Andionar. The name sounded in his head as he awakened. Strange. How different everything seemed.
Becoming fully aware of himself took some time. Andrew Deturck, mild mannered smack musician, was no more. Andionar Deturck, minstrel to the soul, was born.
Andi has since relocated to the Philadelphia area and maintained some prior business contacts, but his current ownership of a club and the money he has tucked away should keep him stable for quite some time. To assuage the fear and investigations of the local law enforcement, Andi went through a detox program and joined a support group.
Andi searches once more for that perfect plateau of spiritual connection. He will play, and he will use, until he once again finds that ever so precious taste of the Dreaming.
