Shredder XV
“Logistics aside,” Gerard replied with a delighted smile, “That would be an outstanding opportunity, Anibel. If I can cut the time necessary to find the shredder, we’d be saving a lot of lives.”
The awkwardness of him wanting to save lives when he wasn’t able to save hers bubbled up between them. They both attempted to talk and nervous laughter ricocheted between them. After a few moments of silence, Anibel raised a hand and took the lead.
“The magics that I worked upon the construct should linger,” she said, “And with a bit of instruction, I should be able to assist you in creating a divining rod that could lead you to the source. At least, in theory that’s how it sh–”
The female Halfling’s head snapped to the side, and she reared away from some unseen menace. Gerard’s beaming smile twisted into a grimace of horror as gauzy appendages materialized into his view, wrapping around Anibel and snatching her into a puff of oblivion.
“No!” Gerard shouted into the nothingness that remained, stepping forward with hands extended.
Anibel’s visage manifested once more, magnified in size such that her mouth nearly consumed Gerard. “Run!” her voice boomed, “Dear gods, run!”
