Akers – The Scale

Agent Akers didn’t mind serving as a second story man for Helix, Inc.  Some would say that it came naturally to him, that it was in his blood.  Little did they know that the evasive man had consumed a steady diet of chameleons since he was nine years old.  There was a lot going on with Agent Akers, and most of it was with his blood.  Ever since he started exhibiting his unique physical enhancements, Akers wasn’t going to let anyone have a look at the hot mess coursing through his veins.  He danced a fine cha-cha with his paranoia each day, but the stress of maintaining a semblance of normalcy hadn’t interfered with his ability to work for Helix…yet.

The eyes were starting to bother him though.  His own eyes.  Glassy gems that stared back at him in the mirror with those reptilian pupils.  *blink blink*  He could hear the double lids slip sliding across his corneas.  A shake of the head and a bit of concentration usually kept his gaze looking human, but the lizard always returned at some point, staring with those dead eyes.

Now this.  A special assignment.  He had managed to maintain a pretty low profile and work the occasional reconnaissance gig, but word had come down from on high.  A new threat had emerged and Helix had assembled an urban response team.

A voice whispered in the back of Akers’ mind, ‘They want the blood and will put you in harm’s way to get it.”
