Shadow of Hope VIII

If this was his first meeting with the woman he knew as Erellia, Kurn  may have been taken aback that she readily knew the name of the handler he had brought along to assist with the horses.  In the way of things, he accepted that she knew the name in stride and did as she bid, first accepting Erellia’s mount, then making the offer to the dwarf, Katarina and Borlak.  “I will lead them, or you may ride them to Haron if you prefer.”  He reached for the reins of any mount a rider wishes to relinquish, or he indicates the area with the ten horses Haron now tends for any rider that would see to their own.

Only now that Erellia has established context to the assembly does he volunteer tersely to the other, “My name is Kurn.”

Turning to his horse, Borlak says nodding toward Kurn, “Galagina, follow.”  He then strides toward Erellia asking, “Of what help may I be with the shelter?”

“Four more,” Kurn tells Haron as he returns to the picket, the mounts in hand by rein.  “Secure them, then assist us with the canopy.”  Before Haron can inquire, Kurn has taken packs from Erellia’s mount, shouldered them easily, and set to carry them over to where the matron was working with the poles.
