“Refuse?!” Anibel scoffed back at the ornery Halfling, “Why in the heavens would you do such a thing?”

“Peace, Anibel,” Gerard replied, raising a staying hand toward her, “I’ll abide by your wishes.  I simply wanted to see the size of your investment.”  The angst on her features was prevalent, even in her translucent state.  “And I have noted that it is considerable.”

The ranger circled the apparition with pensive ease, eyeing the swathed remains once more.  The ghostly eyes trailed along after the wiry figure, watching in earnest.  Nodding to himself, Gerard turned to his female counterpart once more.

“Would you object to me hiding your remains?” he asked, the pragmatist surfacing in full force, “And do the remains of the others need to stay as well, or may I see them returned to their families?”

“Best you leave them,” she responded without pause, “But I don’t believe concealing us would cause undue difficulty, as far as I can see the relevance of such matters you understand.”

Gerard was nodding absently, already planning the morning’s events and gauging the ascent which awaited him.  The trail was diminishing, he could feel the fade in his thrumming senses, in his bones, and the weather promised a foul turn before long.  No help indeed.

“You need your rest, I know that,” Anibel said, gaining Gerard’s attention once more, “The road ahead of you promising an arduous challenge.  But, I may be able to help you there to some degree.”

The ranger turned, eyes and ears perking up at the spirit’s offer of assistance.

“I may have a way for you to find the shredder.”
